How do I stop being so hard on myself?
It’s a question I’ve asked my counselor a number of times.
My self care strategies are hugely important to me.
If I am to battle the overly demanding, guilty feelings I sometimes have, it is critical that I have a plan to not be so hard on myself.
I need methods and resources that go beyond just pedicures and bath bombs.
When I start to get really hard on myself, these are some of the things I do:
5 Tools I Use to Stop Self Criticism
1. Crazy, Sexy Love Notes by Kris Carr
Watch the video to see how I use these cards to take myself from self doubt to self confidence. It’s a strategy my counselor taught me and that we do it at the start of every year.
Kris Carr is also worth checking out. She has a fantastic website with a number of helpful resources.
2. 50 Way to Draw Your Beautiful, Ordinary Life:
I love challenging myself to something new in order to take my mind off of whatever I’m currently struggling with. It’s healthy, it’s a way to feel empowered, and you get to a learn a new skill!
3. Talk to Yourself the Way You Would Talk to a Friend
Seriously. You’re good enough. You’re smart enough. And doggoneit, people like you!
If you want to stop being so hard on yourself, you have got to talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend. Or your kids.
4. Brave Girls Club
A beautifully uplifting community. Sign-up for their emails. They always make me feel empowered, understood and validated. (And it’s counselor recommended!)
5. Something Special
Be the first to catch a glimpse of the Christmas present Chris gave me that I now wear every day. He doesn’t fully understand it, but I love it.
He helps me keep my perspective when I start getting down on myself.
